A young man reincarnated into another world, he is an alchemist with an extraordinary cheat skill that allows him to "recreate anything he wants to make with perfect recipes and procedures." He dislikes standing out and pretends to be an ordinary alchemist.

Kind-hearted and compassionate, his kindness is characterised by treating the slaves he bought through contracts not as tools, but as individuals. Although he has a modest personality, he also shows his true abilities when cornered, making his contrasting nature a charm.

A slave girl purchased by Paracelsus, she possesses the talent for sorcery inherited from her deceased father. She does not intend to resign herself to her status as a slave and harbours a strong will to one day be free.

She gradually opens up to Paracelsus during their life together, but she doesn't settle for just being a heroine; she becomes a character with outstanding presence in the series, driving events with her own initiative in the latter half of the story, rivaling the protagonist.

ココ

An elf girl taken in by Paracelsus and his companions. At the time of their meeting, she was in a critical condition, having lost much of her limbs, eyesight, and hearing, and it was revealed that she had been afflicted with a heavy curse accumulated over many years.

She is central to the theme of "healing" in the early part of the story, and her past and the true nature of her curse will greatly influence future developments.

A woman holding the highest title in the Alchemist Association. She appears before Paracelsus and his companions under the pretext of wanting to help Coco, but her words and actions are often inexplicable, leading to suspicions that she may be the one who cursed Coco. She is a character whose allegiance is unclear, making her an unpredictable presence.

The owner of a magic shop that is a business partner of Paracelsus. She knows a lot about the existence of reincarnated individuals and suspects that Paracelsus might be one of them. She plays a role in providing crucial information related to the core of the story, such as details about those who target reincarnated people.

The god who personally granted cheat skills to reincarnated individuals. This deity is depicted as an elusive being, seemingly orchestrating scenarios where humans compete for skills and observing the ensuing conflicts with enjoyment. It is difficult to determine whether this god is an ally or the greatest threat, making them a character that keeps readers on edge.

The following contains spoilers for the early to mid-game. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet read this part.

The protagonist of the story is a young man named Paracelsus, who has been reincarnated into another world. The ability he received upon reincarnation may seem unremarkable at first glance, but it actually possesses incredible power.

This is a special cheat skill: "The ability to perfectly replicate anything I want to create, using the exact recipe and steps." Because he can accurately understand what materials are needed and what processes must be followed to complete an item, he can create things that ordinary alchemists could never produce.

However, Paracelsus does not try to flaunt this power.

"If I draw attention, I'll be used."

Driven by this sense of crisis, he intended to act like an ordinary alchemist and live a quiet life. This cautious nature is also a defining characteristic of the protagonist in this work.

In recent isekai works, there are many protagonists who "show off their overpowered abilities," so this understated stance is refreshingly novel.

Feeling the limitations of conducting research and alchemical work alone, Paracelsus decides to hire contract slaves who can keep his secret.

It was then that he met two individuals: "Nora, a girl with a talent for curses," and "Coco, an elf girl who had suffered a serious injury." This encounter marks the biggest turning point in the story.

Despite her status as a slave, Nora is by no means a weak character. She is quick-witted and possesses the strength to make calm decisions for her survival.

One of them, Coco, was shocking from her first appearance. Her pained state, having lost her sight and hearing, and with missing limbs. It was more like watching a horror work than an isekai fantasy, and it was shocking.

"What on earth happened to this child?"

The story unfolds in a way that makes you unable to stop turning the pages.

Paracelsus uses all his knowledge to try and heal Coco. However, the treatment does not progress as expected. Nora investigates the cause and discovers a surprising truth.

Coco was under a powerful curse that had been building for many years. It wasn't just an illness or an injury. It was revealed that she had been gradually consumed by someone's malice.

The atmosphere of the work changes completely from this point on. What you thought was a "heartwarming isekai life" suddenly turns into a dark fantasy. The skill with which this transition is handled is captivating.

The highest-ranking woman in the Alchemist Association, Agnosia, who learned of Coco's existence, appears. She says, "I want to help Coco," but her words and actions feel somewhat off. As a reader, you can't help but wonder,

"Is she really an ally?"
"Or is she the mastermind?"

you can't help but suspect.

Her ambiguous position, neither definitively an enemy nor an ally, further heightens the tension of this work. You don't know who you can trust. That's precisely why you can't stop wondering about the next development.

While "The Fake Alchemist" initially appears to be a typical isekai reincarnation story, its impression changes the more you read. Various elements such as alchemy, curses, slavery, and the existence of gods are gradually revealed, offering the intrigue of wanting to ponder, "What secrets does this world hold?"

Especially in the early stages, I felt that the relationship between Paracelsus, Nora, and Coco was carefully depicted, laying a solid foundation for the story.

This work is likely to resonate strongly with those who prefer "fantasy that allows you to savour the world-building" over flashy battles.

As I read "The Fake Alchemist," the most surprising aspect was the presence of the character Nora. In the early part, she was positioned as "a slave girl bought by the protagonist," so honestly, I never expected her to become such a pivotal figure.

However, as the volumes progress, there are more and more scenes where you start to think, "Perhaps it's not just Paracelsus driving the story, but rather Nora's actions and decisions?" In isekai works, it's not uncommon for the heroine to end up being merely a supporting character for the protagonist.

At this point, the reader realises that the protagonist is not the only special one. This means that there could be other reincarnated individuals in this world besides Paracelsus, each potentially possessing different abilities.

From here, the scale of the work expands dramatically.

This is the moment it transforms from a mere story of alchemy into a grand narrative of "gods", "reincarnated individuals", "cheat skills", and "conspiracies".

As the story begins to unfold, Paracelsus himself is finally attacked. The reason for the targeting is clear: his cheat skills.
